If you’re looking to quickly cruise around in style but still need a practical passenger vehicle that has some decent storage, the Jeep Renegade is a tough choice to pass up.
The Jeep Renegade is an interesting vehicle. It’s small, which caters to a European market and taste while staying distinctively American. We think the automaker has hit the mark with this one. On the exterior, you’ll quickly notice the familiar front fascia complete with the large seven-bar grille, which is flanked on both sides by large circular headlamps. In the rear, the square taillights are stamped with “X” shapes, which is a homage to military fuel cans from the original Jeep Era.
The base engine on the 2016 Jeep Renegade is a 1.4-liter turbocharged inline-4 engine that puts out 160 horsepower and 184 lb-ft of torque. An optional 180 horsepower 2.4-liter inline-4 engine that produces 175 lb-ft of torque and is combined with a nine-speed automatic gearbox is also available (the only one in the subcompact crossover segment).
This little Jeep crossover offers a unique addition to the family. It’s the most military-inspired model since the Jeep Wrangler and it can easily handle its own both on and off-road. As far as a crossover goes, it’s tough to pass up the charm and utility of the 2016 Jeep Renegade.
