The 2017 Chrysler Pacifica is a thing of beauty. After decades of minivans following the principle of function over form and being overshadowed by SUVs, the Chrysler Pacifica came to us, revolutionizing the minivan.

With its beautiful design, advanced safety and technology, and family-friendly size, drivers in the Kimball, MN area finally had a new option when it came to the next family vehicle. And someday soon, it may even drive you on its own. FIAT Chrysler Automobiles N.V. (FCAU), the company behind the revolutionary minivan, is doing its part to once again change the automotive industry forever. That’s because they’re joining the effort to create autonomous driving cars.

While they aren’t working on a self-driving Chrysler Pacifica exactly, the technology that the company is investing in is the next step in innovative technology, akin to the new minivan. The move to research self-driving cars for the automaker comes as a partnership with other automakers. It’s not a single car, it’s an entire platform. And that’s something we can get behind here at A. M. Maus and Son.

By developing a platform that can be applied to many new vehicles for sale, including Chrysler cars, this allows the automaker to use the technology to make self-driving versions of virtually any car, truck, or SUV in their lineup.

"In order to advance autonomous driving technology, it is vital to form partnerships among automakers, technology providers and suppliers," said Sergio Marchionne, Fiat Chrysler CEO, in a statement. According to Cnet.com, “Joining this cooperation will enable FCA to directly benefit from the synergies and economies of scale that are possible when companies come together with a common vision and objective.”

The objective is to make these technologies available to automakers by 2021. However, roughly 40 test versions of these vehicles are expected to be seen on the road by the end of the year, including a self-driving version of the Chrysler Pacifica at the upcoming Detroit Auto Show. Everyone here at our Chrysler dealership couldn't be more excited to see these ideas and designs come to life! Learn more today by getting in touch with one of our staff members.
