The next generation Jeep Wrangler may not be as much of a depart from the iconic Wrangler system as some have feared. The 2017 Jeep® Wrangler is still a bit of a mystery, but early spy photos and considerably reliable sources have given us some solid details on what we can expect in the next iteration of one of America’s longest running, and most prolific vehicles.

There do seem to be some aspects, however, that are changing in the next Wrangler. Whether this is in an attempt to gain more road warriors than before, is uncertain. It seems that the fold down windshield may be replaced by a fixed unit, and the traditional soft top has been replaced as well. Though it seems with removable soft panels. In addition, we may see the new Wrangler outfitted with an aluminium body on a steel frame.

Further changes include replacing the sports bar, sometimes referred to as a roll bar, with an integrated substructure, which is assumed to have at least four stressed mounting points. The new integrated bar is expected to come with dedicated grip handles. The reasons for removing the sports bar may be numerous. An obvious reason is to allow engineers a way to better optimize the possible aluminium body, increasing torsional rigidity. On the side of safety, a change in the bar will give the manufacturer a head start on addressing future safety changes coming from the NHTSA.

Lovers of the Jeep Wrangler and its ladder frame with true four-wheel drive should rest assured that the underneath, the 2017 Jeep Wrangler won’t change much. It seems that what makes your Jeep go will still be in place, taking you on any adventure.
