How is Towing Capacity Measured?
When towing a trailer or anything else you need to hitch to your RAM truck, it’s very important to know the towing capacity that your vehicle can safely handle.
Towing capacity is calculated by taking the Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR), which is the maximum total weight your vehicle can handle, and subtracting the curb weight, which is how much your vehicle weighs on its own, without passengers or cargo.
It is important to note that if you plan on towing while you have a payload in the truck bed, you will need to subtract the weight of the payload from your towing capacity. That new figure will be your safe towing capacity.
RAM Truck Towing Guide
There are a few different places you can check to find the towing ability of your RAM truck. The towing capacity can be found in your owner's manual, on the manufacturer sticker on the driver's side door, or the manufacturer’s website. It’s always a good idea to keep the owner’s manual with your truck as it contains lots of useful information.
